DESCRIPTION
Asia Square is the first commercial development in Singapore to achieve a Green Mark Platinum Award by the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore, as well as Leadership in Energy & Environment Core & Shell (LEED-CS) Platinum certification by the US Green Building Council (USGBC). The development incorporates innovative and cutting-edge green technologies that not only enable businesses to minimise costs and obtain energy efficiencies but also to reduce their carbon footprint. With its award-winning green designs, Asia Square consumes approximately 33% less energy and 40% less water as compared to most standard commercial buildings.
Designed by Australian-based architectural firm, Denton Corker Marshall and Singapore-based Architects 61, the primary design challenge was in the integration of two separate land parcels, which accommodate large regular floor plates, as well as the provision of a crown signature to articulate the towers.
The design solution is depicted by the twin towers of Asia Square. Each tower consists of a cluster complex of 8 slim, high-rise shafts of differing heights rising out of a simple rectilinear, white glass podium or “ice block”. The varying articulation of the shaft heights provides a dynamic expression that contrasts with the simplicity of the “ice block”. This creates a distinctive silhouette on Singapore’s skyline.
A centrepiece design feature is the 100,000 sq ft roofed public space or city room, called ‘The Cube’ – featuring a 16.5 m high ceiling with a random pattern of square skylights that provide natural light and ventilation. This vibrant landscaped plaza offers a vast covered space for outdoor dining and public entertainment; and the largest Microtile screen installation in Asia.
