Euro Auctions predicts massive turnouts for upcoming Brisbane UNRESERVED auctions. Everything will be sold on the day!

Customers race to sign up for upcoming Euro Auctions sales – 29th August 2019

Euro Auctionsthe record-breaking international auctioneers of industrial plant, construction and agricultural machineryis already receiving consignments for the next sale, being held in Brisbane, Australia. On 22th August. All Euro Auctions sales are UNRESERVED, and bidders will see an impressive array of quality equipment, much unused, being sold, without reserve, and interest in both amongst consignors and interested bidders is already high.

In the last auction on 20th June, a hammer total of $7.5 million was achieved, seeing more bidders than in any previous sale. In total, 1,705 bidders registered for the sale, of which 90% were online bidders. With Euro Auctions on-line ‘bidding platform’ bidding and buying online is easy, showing a 30% increase in bidders over the same sale in June 2018.

UNRESERVED – when the hammer is down, its sold!

“Demand for quality used equipment in this part of the world is definitely on the increase, which means we can satisfy sellers and deliver what buyers want. The fact that our sales are unreserved is very popular with the Australian buyer.  At all Euro Auction sales, everything IS SOLD on the day to the highest bidder.  Our buyers know they can get the equipment they want without having to worry about if the item will sell or not – if they are the highest bidder, it’s theirs” comments Paul Haynes, Euro Auctions’ Territory Manager for NSW.

“Our one-day online sales are also very popular, meaning consignors either located in remote areas or with particularly big pieces of kit can reach out to customers who in turn don’t need to travel to a specific location to participate in the auction process. However, our one-day physical onsite sale on 29th August will provide buyers with the perfect opportunity to personally inspect the various lots being offered, before bidding, plus it’s the perfect chance to meet up with mates, and likeminded people to discuss activities face-to-face.”

Paul continued: “We are seeing significant growth in bidder participation in all our auctions and the increased demand for new equipment is helping drive auction activity in the used equipment sector. We expect to see many consignors allocate quality used equipment to both these auctions over the coming weeks, releasing quality used equipment back into the market to meet the strong demand for it.”

Asia’s Megacities Remain Some of the World’s Cheapest Places to Build In, Says Arcadis

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Asia’s megacities remain some of the world’s cheapest places for new construction, according to the International Construction Costs 2019 report published by Arcadis, a global design and consultancy for natural and built assets. Only four cities in Asia rank inside the global top 50 for the cost of construction while nearly all cities in China, India and Southeast Asia are ranked among the cheapest.

Hong Kong ranks 1st in Asia for construction costs, followed by Macau and Tokyo, and ranks 3rd in the world. Singapore ranks 4th in Asia but only 48th in the world, due to a slowdown in public sector construction, nervous financial markets, and also an increased number of cities in the rankings.

The annual report, Arcadis’ International Construction Cost 2019, details and ranks the relative cost of construction in the world’s major cities, helping guide companies towards a higher long-term return on investment for construction projects. Arcadis has also expanded the report for 2019, summarizing the costs in 100 cities, including 18 in Asia, up from the 50 covered in 2018.

The report found that the majority of Asian cities are significantly cheaper with relative construction costs affected by currency fluctuations, commodity prices and increasing demand for development in some growing economies. These changes have seen the relative cost of building in Asia markets decrease significantly compared to other regions. Significant factors for the reduced costs include lower wages, more accessible construction materials, and more land available at lower costs.

In China, however, despite being a relatively cheaper market for new construction, Arcadis expects that higher interest rates and increases in material and labour costs will likely lead to a rise in construction costs over 2019.

According to the report, this year’s cooling off across the global economy will also have an impact on construction markets. These include a tightening of financial conditions, a volatile supply of materials and costs, and downside risks on construction demand. Construction companies and their clients will need to make smart decisions focusing on innovation, benefits to citizens and sustainability in order to consolidate long-term success.

Cambridge Researchers Developing Self-Healing Concrete

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Researchers at the University of Cambridge are using microencapsulation technologies developed by Dolomite Microfluidics to develop self-healing construction materials.

As highlighted in recent BBC News broadcasts, the Department of Engineering’s Geotechnical and Environmental Research Group is developing microcapsules containing ‘healing’ agents – such as minerals, epoxy or polyurethane – which can be added to building materials to allow self-repair of small cracks which develop over time.

Dr. Livia Ribeiro de Souza, a postdoctoral researcher in the group, explained: “Many composite building materials used in the construction industry – such as concrete – suffer fatigue over time, developing small cracks. We are hoping to overcome this problem by adding microcapsules filled with ‘healing’ agents to the concrete before it is used. The idea is that, as cracks begin to form, they rupture the microcapsules, releasing their payload and stabilising the material.”

“This approach requires the formation and functionalisation of double emulsion microcapsules, which we have been producing with the help of microfluidics. We have been using a Dolomite Microfluidics system since 2014, and find that microfluidics offers much better control of particle size and composition than traditional emulsification polymerisation techniques, simplifying the investigation and optimisation of particle properties.”

The Dolomite system has enabled the researchers to create functionalised microcapsules that bind more strongly to the cement matrix, while also having thinner shell walls and higher core retention, improving their self-healing properties. Livia continued: “It is good to be able to discuss any issues we’re having with the experts at Dolomite Microfluidics, helping to accelerate our research and move us a step closer to real world applications.”
