LG Introduced Innovative Total Home Solutions at KBIS and IBS 2025

LG Electronics showcased its cutting-edge residential space solutions at the 2025 Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS) and 2025 International Builders’ Show (IBS), which took place in Las Vegas from 25 to 27 February 2025.

As a regular exhibitor at KBIS and a first-time participant at IBS – the world’s largest annual light construction tradeshow – LG introduced a range of innovative products and solutions designed to meet the evolving needs of home designers and builders in the American market. Aligned with America’s latest lifestyle and housing trends, LG’s offerings combined thoughtful design with cutting-edge technologies.

At KBIS 2025, LG aimed to captivate and inspire attendees with its rebranded SKS (SIGNATURE KITCHEN SUITE) ultra-premium built-in kitchen solutions. Visitors experienced the passion and authenticity behind SKS’s True to Food philosophy through the brand’s latest innovations, including the SKS 36-inch Cook-zone-free Induction Pro Range and the revolutionary Island System concept.

Executive Chef Nick Ritchie, from the SKS Experience & Design Center in Napa Valley, Calif., hosted live culinary demonstrations featuring the SKS Pro Range and Combi Wall Oven. These cutting-edge appliances feature Gourmet AI™, which analyses available ingredients and suggests optimal recipes and cooking modes for an elevated cooking experience.

The SKS showcase also highlighted “Technicurean” concept kitchens – where culinary expertise meets advanced technology. Designed for different facets of the Technicurean lifestyle, these kitchens seamlessly integrate SKS’s latest innovations, including the 24-inch column wine cellar with LG ThinQ™-enabled wine curation and the stylish SKS Transitional package.

Maximising Space, Energy Efficiency and Everyday Convenience

Beyond SKS, LG’s KBIS exhibit presented a range of premium LG-branded solutions designed exclusively for the U.S. market. Visitors explored high-capacity, high-efficiency appliances across four dedicated zones – Zero Clearance, Zero Gas, Zero Venting and Zero Inefficiency – and experienced seamless connectivity and personalised comfort enabled by the LG AI Home hub, ThinQ ON™, and smart life solutions including ThinQ UP™ and ThinQ Care™.

Emphasising the “Zero” theme, LG introduced innovations designed to optimise home spaces. The Zero Clearance Zone, styled as a chic, modern living environment, featured appliances incorporating LG’s space-efficient Zero Clearance™ technology. Showcasing the benefits of electrification, the Zero Gas Zone highlighted a variety of electric kitchen and laundry appliances, including induction cooktops and ovens. The Zero Venting Zone, demonstrated LG’s leadership in heat pump dryers. The dryers provide enhanced efficiency with the company’s DUAL Inverter heat pump and accurate fabric-type and load-weight analysis with the AI DirectDrive™ (AI DD™) Motor and 6 Motion™ technology. A cutaway model provided an inside look at LG’s advanced heat pump dryer mechanics.

The Zero Inefficiency Zone introduced the “Zero Labour Home” lifestyle with LG ThinQ ON™ AI Home hub and a suite of AI-powered appliances. This included spacious, high-capacity solutions ideal for larger households, such as the LG SIGNATURE 29-inch washer and dryer pair and the 29-inch WashTower™. Enhancing everyday convenience, LG ThinQ ON™ simplifies home management, ThinQ UP™ offers continuous service upgrades and ThinQ Care™ delivers premium, proactive support, creating a smarter and more efficient living experience.

Accelerating Expansion into the U.S. Builder Market

Debuting at IBS, LG showcased an array of solutions for builders, designed to meet the evolving needs of homebuilders and the unique demands of their customers. LG’s comprehensive IBS exhibit features concept spaces designed to accommodate various lifestyles and preferences, each offering an optimised package that reflects the company’s intimate knowledge and understanding of the latest American housing trends.

Builders explored a range of compelling home solution collections, including packages with ENERGY STAR®-certified appliances with heat pump technology and premium built-in packages customised for single-family and multi-family homes. The exhibit’s central meeting area allows attendees to connect with LG Pro Builders, LG’s dedicated salesforce for the builder market, to discuss the residential solutions on display.

LG’s IBS exhibit also highlighted the benefits of its smart home management solutions. LG ThinQ™ integrates smart appliances and IoT devices into a unified smart home system, enhancing convenience and security for homeowners. Additionally, LG ThinQ Care™ offers proactive support, intelligently safeguarding appliance performance and reliability while helping to prevent costly and inconvenient service visits.

IES Presents Charles Rudd Distinguished Global Lectures for WED 2025

The Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES), in collaboration with Singapore Polytechnic (SP), proudly presented the World Engineering Day 2025: Charles Rudd Distinguished Global Lectures (WED 2025: CRDGL) at the SP Convention Centre. Held as a prelude to WED for Sustainable Development on 4 March 2025, this event convened leading experts, innovators and thought leaders from the global engineering community to share insights, explore emerging technologies and address engineering challenges shaping our future.

Themed ‘Towards a Sustainable World: Engineering the Way Forward’, this year’s lectures spotlighted two critical topics: Circular Economy and Resilient Future. With intensifying global challenges such as climate change, urbanisation and resource depletion, this event underscored the critical role of engineering in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Minister of State for Home Affairs and National Development, Associate Professor Dr Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, was the guest of honour at the event. The two distinguished keynote speakers were Ms Tita Yowana Alwis, Minister Counsellor, Head of Economy – Indonesia Embassy and Mr Kelvin Wong, Chief Executive Officer of Building and Construction Authority (BCA). Their addresses provided valuable insights into the intersection of engineering and sustainable development, inspiring participants to envision bold new pathways to a better future.

The panel discussion titled ‘Navigating the Future: Circular Economy and Building Resilience’ featured an influential lineup of experts, moderated by Professor Seeram Ramakrishna, Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the National University of Singapore and Chair of the Sustainability Cluster at IES. Attendees had the opportunity to participate in breakout activities, including learning journeys, technical talks and seminars, designed to foster collaboration and innovation in engineering solutions for sustainable development.

“WED 2025: CRDGL seeks to broaden public appreciation of the impact of engineering – showcasing its role in solving global challenges. By exploring the circular economy and resilient future, we aim to deepen appreciation for engineering as a driver of innovation – turning challenges into opportunities and forging solutions that balance progress with long-term sustainability,” said Er. Chan Ewe Jin, President of IES.

IES hosts the lectures annually in honour of the late Er. Charles Rudd, a distinguished IES member and engineer, who generously bequeathed over $1 million to the institution. Held as part of the WED 2025 celebrations, highlights of the lectures have been recorded and broadcast globally to celebrate engineering achievements in support of WED 2025’s goal of ‘Shaping Sustainable Future through Engineering’. Endorsed by seven sponsors and over 45 local and international organisations, the three-hour hybrid lecture attracted more than 1,000 local and overseas participants.

“As engineers, we are called upon to address challenges that transcend borders, from subsistence farming practices to infrastructure challenges in urban areas and overcoming poverty through digital technologies. These require a united effort from the global engineering community, alongside governments, businesses and civil society. As the incoming WFEO President, I am committed to advancing these collaborations to ensure engineering remains a catalyst for a sustainable world,” said Er. Tan Seng Chuan, President-Elect of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), Chair of WED Committee and Emeritus President of IES.

This commitment to innovation and collaboration is reflected in Singapore’s strong representation at the WED 2025 Hackathon, with two shortlisted entries out of a total of 15 finalists. A team from the National University of Singapore (NUS) has been recognised for their project, ‘Empower: Digital Tools for Women’s Social Change’ which focuses on helping women in underprivileged areas access digital resources through education, mentorship and skills-building to break the cycle of poverty.

Meanwhile, a team from PSB Academy also made it to the finals with their submission, ‘Smart Irrigation Monitoring System (SIMS): Solar-Powered Irrigation & AI for Small Farmers’, which provides farmers with affordable technology to enhance climate resilience and protect their crops. These innovative solutions highlight the ingenuity and problem-solving capabilities of Singapore’s young engineers in addressing pressing global challenges.

Launch of Built Environment Transformation Learning Journey

The event also saw the launch of the Built Environment (BE) Transformation Learning  Journey, which was developed by SP and supported by BCA. Mr Soh Wai Wah, Principal & CEO, SP; Er. Chan Ewe Jin, President, IES and Mr Kelvin Wong, CEO, BCA, officiated the launch, with A/P Muhammad Faishal as the witness. Supported by BCA, the initiative offers SMEs practical insights into this resilient and forward-looking industry.

Focusing on the Industry Transformation Map (ITM) and its three key pillars – Integrated Planning and Design, Advanced Manufacturing and Automation, and Sustainable Urban Systems – the journey showcases transformative examples of how BE sector companies leverage innovative technologies and sustainable practices. It also equips SMEs with the tools to strategically plan their business and workforce transformation.

Participants can access follow-up support, including training programmes and funding opportunities, to facilitate their growth and position themselves for success in a rapidly evolving BE landscape. Following the main programme, participants joined the breakout activities curated by co-organisers SP and the National Committee of Engineering Organisations (NCEO) members, including the Engineers Australia Singapore Chapter and INCOSE Singapore Chapter.

LIXIL Celebrated Architecture and Design Excellence at WOF2024

LIXIL, maker of water and housing products, through its GROHE brand, welcomed nearly 1,600 delegates and guests to the World Architecture Festival 2024 (WAF) in Singapore. The seventeenth edition of WAF was held at the famous Marina Bay Sands, to recognise industry excellence and outstanding projects from across the world.

 

WAF is the largest global gathering of the leading architects and designers (A&D), who engaged in thought leadership talks, business networking and opportunities over the course of the prestigious event. This year’s festival theme ‘Tomorrow’ examined how architecture, urban design, landscape and interiors will be affected by the trends seen around us with respect to population movement, city growth, digital technology, AI, immersive environments and cultural change. The global A&D community converged at WAF to advance this theme through various keynotes, speakers, and conversations to catalyse ideas and opportunities.

 

The theme resonates with the A&D community’s deep appreciation that buildings exert considerable aesthetic and psychological impact on our everyday lives. WAF reflects and advances this understanding through its live judging and discourse on competing ideas that affect the human experience. Over 800 entries vied for coveted awards across different categories. Out of the 53 category winners, 21 were from Asia and Australasia, led by Australia (9), China (3), Singapore, India and Japan (2 each).

This research and development project is being built across 8 hectares in Maotai Town, Guizhou Province, China,  for a liquor distillery to manage a daily output of 7,000 tons of sewage and industrial wastewater, by creating an ecosystem that fully integrates water, nutrients, carbon, and energy recycling. Although specific to a planned distillery, the principles involved would apply to any industrial facility using large amounts of water. This is the sixth time the GROHE Water Research Prize has been awarded, with past winners across water filtration, generation and cooling systems in Bangladesh, Peru, Brazil, and Greece.

Malaysia’s Construction Industry Shatters Records at ICW & BuildXpo 2024

The International Construction Week (ICW) and Malaysia International Building and Construction Industry Exhibition (BuildXpo) 2024, held from 22 to 24 October at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC),  delivered a record-breaking RM654.4 million in projected trade value, marking a 32 percent surge from 2023’s RM494.3 million.

 

Hosted by the Ministry of Works, organised by the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Malaysia, and managed by Qube Integrated Malaysia Sdn Bhd (QUBE), this premier regional event showcased the nation’s leadership in construction excellence. Nearly 15,000 professionals, policymakers, and innovators were brought together alongside 200 exhibitors from 20 countries. From advanced robotics to next-generation smart building systems and 3D  printing technologies, ICW & BuildXpo 2024 positioned Malaysia as a pivotal hub for construction innovation.

 

Transformative Partnerships Drive Industry Growth

The event was a catalyst for transformative collaborations, underpinned by three key agreements that will shape the future of Malaysia’s construction sector:

  • BIM Accreditation Collaboration with Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia  (UTHM): A landmark Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between CIDB and UTHM launched a  five-year Building Information Modelling (BIM) Accreditation Collaboration  Programme. This initiative integrates CIDB’s accreditation expertise with UTHM’s state-of-the-art facilities, aiming to create a new generation of BIM-certified professionals equipped to drive digital transformation in construction.
  • Strategic Partnership with PlanRadar: Another significant MoA between CIDB’s subsidiary, CIDBEC, and PlanRadar will introduce bespoke digital solutions to improve construction efficiency. These initiatives include localised tools, extensive training, and innovative marketing solutions tailored to Malaysian industry needs, advancing the  Construction 4.0 agenda.
  • Pioneering MoU with Wenma Scaffolding Solutions and Services Malaysia: This collaboration elevates construction safety and skill development.  Through skill training programmes and adherence to international certification standards,  the partnership underscores CIDB’s commitment to maintaining the highest safety benchmarks in the industry.

 

Global Alliances Enhance Competitiveness

In a strong demonstration of Malaysia’s international appeal, ICW & BuildXpo 2024 featured eight Documents of Understanding (DOUs) signed with partners from Australia, China, Hong  Kong, Korea, Norway, and Spain. These agreements, projected to deliver RM20 to 30 million in value over three years, span technology transfer, advanced training programmes, and cutting-edge construction methodologies.

 

The event’s International Sourcing Programme (INSP) also recorded significant success,  generating RM152.2 million in trade value. Curated by the Malaysia External Trade  Development Corporation (MATRADE) in collaboration with QUBE, the INSP facilitated 47  targeted business meetings between 22 Malaysian firms and 11 international buyers from eight countries. Four Letters of Intent from Hong Kong and Australia are under active negotiation,  underscoring Malaysia’s appeal as a construction innovation leader.

 

Recognition of Excellence in Sustainability and Innovation

CIDB’s introduction of the QUEST 2024 Awards added prestige to the event by recognising achievements in safety, health, quality, and green building practices. Honourees included recipients of the Five-Star SCORE Competitiveness Rating, a testament to Malaysia’s unwavering commitment to upholding world-class construction standards.

Under the theme “Connected Lighting for Sustainable Living,” LED Expo Thailand 2024 presented the latest LED technologies designed to address key industry challenges, including energy conservation and carbon footprint reduction. Through detailed exhibits and thoughtful presentations, the event demonstrated the sector’s significant advancements and highlighted the expansive potential that remains untapped.

The show floor buzzed with activity as visitors from diverse sectors made their presence felt, showcasing innovations. Representatives from academia, agricultural farming, architecture and design, as well as energy management and facility management, converged to share insights and advancements. Complementing these sessions was the Hosted Buyer Programme, which fostered high-impact interactions between buyers and exhibitors. The Hosted Buyer Programme, conducted from 5 to 7 September 2024, facilitated exceptional networking opportunities by linking top buyers with key industry stakeholders. Professionals who participated in the buyer programme benefited from covered travel expenses, complimentary accommodations, and a tailored matchmaking platform, all of which contributed to developing valuable business relationships. Travel and accommodation costs were fully covered for qualified overseas buyers.

With more than 405 meetings, the Hosted Buyer Programme created a profound impact that resonated throughout the industry. In addition, exclusive workshops were conducted by industry experts to equip attendees with the latest skills and insights in an attempt to prepare them to navigate the evolving lighting market and harness the latest technological advancements.

 

The exhibition even spotlighted architectural lighting trends, featuring sessions led by distinguished designers and consultants. Topics explored included human-centric lighting, sustainable design strategies, and the integration of smart technology, offering attendees crucial perspectives on how these innovations impact energy efficiency, sustainability, and overall well-being.

Building Construction Technology Expo 2024 (BCT Expo 2024), the Southeast Asian building and construction exhibition and conference, took place successfully in Bangkok, Thailand from 18th to 20th September 2024. BCT Expo 2024 was organised under the theme “The Construction Meeting Place” saw the participation of 150 exhibiting companies and brands from 16 countries, with over 3,879 industry visitors from 35 countries.

 

This three-day event presented a comprehensive range of machinery, equipment, tools, technology, materials and solutions across 10 AEC clusters ranging from earthmoving and demolition, lifting and handling, road construction, concrete and cement, materials, tools and equipment, digital construction, AI & robotics, construction services to smart facility management.

 

It was a hugely successful week for attendees to build their networks as this regional industry gathering provided the face-to-face bridge for international collaborations and networking, bringing together ideas, solutions, innovations and partnerships for the AEC sectors. Before the start of BCT Expo 2024, a special “International – Thai Construction Networking Cruise Night” along the Chao Phraya River was arranged to provide attendees with a unique river cruise networking experience that was very well received by both its local and international attendees.

Apart from the exhibition, BCT Expo 2024 also saw the conduct of a series of knowledge-rich conferences, where over 30 industry experts from various international and local organizations shared their insights on emerging trends, technologies and sustainability. Some of these conference topics included AI and robotics, the future of construction equipment, green construction transition, drone applications, BIM, and smart facility management.

 

Another key highlight of BCT Expo 2024 was its highly successful “business-matching programme”, which saw the conduct of over 520 pre-arranged business meetings between pre-qualified hosted buyers and exhibitors. This programme allowed exhibitors to pre-schedule one-to-one meetings with their targeted key buyers.

The success of BCT Expo 2024 is a testament to its records over the years, in facilitating growth for the AEC markets, not just in Thailand but also in the Southeast Asian region. This event provides a dynamic face-to-face platform for suppliers, trade visitors and buyers to network, exchange views, update on the latest trends, and forge new business deals and opportunities.

Next year’s BCT Expo 2025 will take place again in Bangkok, Thailand, from 3 to 5 September 2025 at the IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Centre. BCT Expo 2025 will continue to serve as the Southeast Asian “Construction Meeting Place” focused on building networks for the construction sector with its exhibition showcase of the latest AEC and technology solutions, a series of informative conferences, technology skill certification workshops, safety training, business matching programme and networking activities.

Advancing Smart Space Technologies and Enhancing Collaboration

Shanghai Intelligent Building Technology (SIBT), Shanghai Smart Home Technology (SSHT) and Parking China (PKC) concluded on 5 September 2024 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre.

 

Held concurrently with Shanghai Smart Office Technology (SSOT), the four shows attracted 28,295 visitors, marking an increase from last year. This number included 31 domestic and international visiting groups. Participants praised the show for fostering efficient exchanges within the intelligent building industry and for shaping the future of smart living.

 

Ms Lucia Wong, General Manager of Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd said: “I am delighted to see that the fairs have created an effective communication platform for both local and international industry players, encouraging everyone to share insights and foster collaboration. I would like to sincerely thank all participants for their active involvement and support. I look forward to everyone reuniting in Shanghai next year to witness further smart technology developments in the fields of building, home, office and parking.”

 

Promoting Local and International Cooperation

Running under the theme “Smart Spaces, Smart Living”, this edition brought together nearly 300 leading and innovative companies, and the showcases covered a range of innovations and solutions such as low-carbon intelligent buildings, smart homes, facility management, smart parking, smart hotel, and intelligent integration.

 

The shows also featured a record number of thematic product zones, emphasising a diverse range of highlighted content. The zones included the “DISCIEN Future Meeting Zone”, the “Urban Renewal Research Zone”, the “Facility Management Service Provider Zone”, the “WELL Healthy Building Pavilion” and the “UWA Global Ultra-High-Definition Video Industry Alliance Zone”.

 

Meanwhile, the shows attracted 31 delegations from local and overseas markets, including the Cambodia Business Association, a Malaysian smart home design delegation, the KNX User Club delegation, a Saudi Arabian smart city and parking visiting group, an urban parking service group, an exploration and interior design group, the Shanghai Internet of Things Industry group, the Urban Regeneration Research Association, a tourism and hotel industry group, and a smart office visiting group composed of professionals from across the country.

 

Both exhibitors and visitors expressed satisfaction with the shows, remarking the opportunities to effectively connect with potential customers and suppliers, as well as exchange knowledge and expertise. They also conveyed their eagerness to return next year.

The ratio of domestic to international customers is now nearly fifty-fifty. It’s also fascinating to explore a variety of products, including facility management and intelligent building solutions, all in one place,” expressed Mr Andres Mancero, General Manager, Valdani Trading (Ecuador).

 

“PKC is a highly regarded and influential event in the parking industry. We attend every year to explore the latest technologies and products, including parking lock equipment for on-street parking. This year, I found many of the products to be particularly refreshing. I exchanged contacts with several exhibitors, some of whom also expressed interest in our company’s business. It’s evident that this exhibition serves as an excellent platform for business exchange,” said Ms Jiamin Wu, Technical Director, Eleve.

 

Capturing Industry Trends and Exploring Intelligent Building and Smart Living

The three-day shows offered 21 forums, featuring over 100 industry experts who shared their insights on more than 150 trending topics. Additionally, SSHT collaborated with CSHIA Startup Camp to host the “CSHIA Startup Camp: Smart Home Integration Application Challenge,” which included competitions in installation, wiring, debugging, and networking to inspire integrators to innovative spirit and improve their practical skills.Elsewhere, highlighted events in the intelligent building and smart home sectors included the following:

Meanwhile, additional events in the parking sector included the Shanghai Smart Parking Application Promotion and Exchange Forum, as well as the Charging Operator Super Salon – Shanghai Station 2024. Furthermore, facility management-related forums included the Green Smart Cleaning Forum and the CFM Summit – FM in the New Era, From Service Innovation to Digital Transformation.

 

“As the elderly population increases, the demand for senior care services continues to rise. Smart gerontechnology products and services can help address the shortage of young labour while enhancing the overall quality of care. As a result, the smart gerontechnology industry is poised for significant growth opportunities. The show and the concurrent forum not only provided industry players with a clearer understanding of the trends but also bolstered practitioners’ confidence in the industry’s prospects,” said Mr Weihua Gu, Researcher, Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatisation.

 

“The content I highlighted at the ‘Salon of the Wise – The Intelligent Scenario Collision of the All-Domain Business Space’ focused on the various challenges the electric charging industry may face during investment, construction and operation. Experts were invited to share corresponding solutions. The event enabled industry players to quickly grasp the latest market news and enhance their professional and technical capabilities. The fair is also an ideal place for increasing our organisation’s influence,” shared Ms Siqi Zhai, Founder, Charging and Swapping Research.

 

The next editions of SIBT, SSHT and PKC will take place concurrently with SSOT in 2025 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre. Further details will be provided soon. The fairs are headed by the biennial Light + Building event in Frankfurt, Germany. The next edition will be held from 8 to 13 March 2026.
