Reading Time: 2 minutes

Shaw Contract Group recently opened its new regional showroom in Singapore. It is located in the central region where 2562 square feet of the space will be used to showcase its full portfolio of inspired designs and can be used to host meetings and events for industry partners.

Stepping into the space, one would immediately notice its unique mix of patterns on the ground. More than 10 carpet types were used on the flooring to showcase the different carpet products throughout the showroom. Tiled carpets were laid such that the multitude of colours available to customers is displayed and the carpet tiles could also be easily replaced to display new collections in the future.

Combined with the expertise of local award-winning architect firm, SCA Design, most recently awarded the Honourable Mention at the 2015 Asia Pacific Property Awards, the new showroom meets high standards of environmental sustainability and is also Green Mark certified by BCA Green Mark Scheme in Singapore; consistent with other Shaw Contract Group showrooms around the world.

The showroom in Singapore optimises daylight, by using glass panels instead of solid walls, ensuring a decreased use in artificial lighting, thereby minimising energy consumption. The glass panels also allow for a more collaborative meeting space, where integrated interaction can occur among guests and staff.

The largest recycler of post-consumer carpet in the world, Shaw Contract Group has been recognised for its innovative products which have consecutively picked up awards for their design every year in the past decade.

“As a firm champion of the environment, we weave sustainability into the fabric of our business – our products, manufacturing process, business operations including the space we work and live in, whilst ensuring we deliver the needs of our clients with high-performing products,” says Dan Clark, managing director (Asia Pacific). “We are confident our new showroom will better serve our clients within the region and allow us to connect as a community.”

During the opening party of the new space, Shaw Contract Group showcased their latest collections, The Park and Noble Materials. The Park collection reinforces the idea and demonstrates that through great design, balance can be achieved in the spaces we gather, play and escape while the Noble Materials collection showcases geometry and meticulously plotted diagrams,” shared Kimberly Morgan, Senior Designer for Global Workspace.

Singapore joins London, Atlanta, Shanghai, Beijing, New York and other global design hubs where Shaw Contract Group’s presence is a catalyst for design excellence. Major Shaw Contract Group’s clients in Asia have their business headquartered in Singapore or operate out from Singapore. From fortune 500 companies to local universities and hospitals, the business and organizations that impact the local economy will have access to this creative space – giving them the opportunity to work with architects and designers to continue developing commercial interiors that will attract employees, students, visitors, and customers.

Industrial-strength carpet made from recyclable items

AN industrial-strength carpet made of used fishing nets and plastic bottles which is also recyclable is attracting attention from architects keen “green building” products.

The carpet, manufactured by ec.group in South Australia, uses recycled fish netting in the pile fibre and recycled plastic bottles for the backing and is 100 per cent recyclable.

The carpet has attracted international attention and was last month awarded a Good Design Award from Good Design Australia.

According to ec.group general manager Chris Timberlake, the company’s Wilderness carpet line provides superior noise acoustic properties, impact absorption, is ultra-hard wearing, thermal efficient and breathable.

The boutique manufacturer, which has been operating in South Australia for 50 years, joined with a Thailand-based partner and manufacturer to develop the product in response to increased demand for products that help buildings achieve “green’’ status.

“This carpet is 100 per cent recyclable at the end of its life which is extremely attractive to architects and designers who wish to achieve high “green ratings’’ for their buildings,’’ said Timberlake.

Chief Executive Officer of the Green Building Council of Australia, Romilly Madew, said since the Green Star rating system was launched in 2003 it has rewarded clever re-use of materials – both in base buildings and in fit-outs.

“Not only do the rating tools encourage re-use of structure and façade, and using less to achieve the same outcomes, but they encourage project teams to think about what they are using, where those materials come from, and to consider innovation in every aspect of what they do,’’ Madew said.

“As a result, Green Star has driven designers and architects to think more strategically about how they can reuse materials to reduce the amount of construction waste going to landfill.  Many of the examples of reuse are more functional than artistic however, there are a number of Green Star projects which have made ‘upcycled’ materials a feature of their designs.’’

The ec.group are currently selling the Wilderness product in North America and the United Kingdom.

“It is still quite a new product at the moment,’’ Timberlake said.  “But the momentum has clearly started following successful trade expos in Chicago, Melbourne and Sydney last year. We expect to be launching a marketing campaign across the United States by the end of 2015.

“We are currently selling above our initial forecast and we expect to double that figure within 12 months.’’

“In Australia the carpet has already been laid in schools in New South Wales, high-end hotels in Adelaide and entertainment venues in Melbourne. The take up has been quite rapid and is Australia wide.’’

Executive Director of the Property Council for Australia (SA), Daniel Gannon said increased use of eco-friendly, sustainable building materials provided a “win win’’ scenario within the building industry.

“From policy makers down to tenants of commercial buildings there are great advantages for using recycled and sustainable products in construction and redevelopment,’’ he said.

“Whether it is good corporate citizenry or creating genuine sustainability there is a much higher awareness of the benefits of eco-friendly products in the commercial sector than there was 20 years ago.

“Those in the market are looking for a higher level of sophistication in design which can also improve valuation.”

Flowcoat Chosen for South Africa’s Largest Flooring Project at Iveco

Flowcrete supplied Iveco with a range of solutions as part of the company’s vast and complex flooring project at its new manufacturing facility in Pretoria.

The 55,000 square metre installation was the largest flooring project in South Africa at the time and required multiple specialist and bespoke systems to be applied throughout the large manufacturing complex.

The global leader of industrial vehicles carried out an extensive specification process to ensure that the finished surface within its new facility would be able to withstand the intensive activity that would be carried out on site. Out of the seven companies that put forward flooring samples during the specification process, Iveco recognised that the systems provided by the global resin flooring specialists Flowcrete would
be the best fit for its latest development.

Flowcrete South Africa’s Managing Director Craig Blitenthall said: “When Iveco chose us they knew that they were choosing quality over costs,as there were cheaper alternatives available – however when it came down to which supplier was best placed to meet their demanding requirements it was Flowcrete that came out on top.

“Working on this development meant overcoming many interesting challenges, as not only was it the largest flooring project in the country at the time, but meeting Iveco’s specifications meant creating unique solutions and making full use of the flexibility of our systems.”

To meet Iveco’s high aesthetic requirements Flowcrete had to supply its solutions in the casino same colours as the client’s international standards. To do this the resin flooring specialist developed and produced floors in bespoke tones that matched Iveco’s corporate colours.

Before the floor finish could be applied the concrete substrate had to be assessed to find out what damage had been caused by a fire that had broken out during construction. To fix this floor layer the underlying concrete slabs were taken up and the area rescreeded. Support beams and sliding doors that had been fire damaged were removed and the floor cavities left behind were filled in with Conrep SF65.

The epoxy resin floor coating Flowcoat SF41 was installed across the main production areas of the facility as well as on the walkways. The hard-wearing and chemically resistant nature of this solution makes it ideal for large-scale manufacturing plants, as it will maintain a seamless, impermeable and bright surface despite the inevitable heavy work load, oil and grease spillages, hot water washes and the physical impacts of heavy equipment.

Flowcoat SF41 can optimise the working environment of industrial facilities in a number of ways. Its adjustable anti-slip profile means that the use of graded aggregates can be tailored to reduce the risk of slips and trips depending on the location.

This system was also used for the demarcation lines, creating bright and clear yellow signage to aid navigation around the busy, multi-complexsite. Flowcoat SF41 was utilised for this, as Iveco wanted a solution that was thicker and more durable than the standard demarcation line product.

Several areas of the facility required the floor to have specific properties. The laboratory and paint mixing rooms had the polyurethane resin system Flowfresh HF ESD installed across the floors and Flowfresh WR ESD was applied as coving around the drains. These systems not only create a seamless and easy-to-clean floor, but they also have electrostatic dissipative properties to avoid static charge build up. This was important within the laboratory as static charges in the floor can damage sensitive electrical equipment and within a paint room it can be a dangerous ignition source.

This combination of solutions meant that Iveco could rest assured that its new facility would maintain an unblemished surface that wouldn’t deteriorate when faced with the inevitable demands of manufacturing 20 tonne trucks.

Flowcrete develop sustainable car park flooring using Deckshield ID

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – As part of a Property developer MRCB (Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad) was approached to build and develop a new parking facility with flooring that would stand the test of time, meeting the performance criteria that the client’s former car park hadn’t.

Not only would the coating need to withstand the sustained traffic and footfall, providing a safe anti-slip surface underfoot but it would also need to be water tight and protect the concrete structure by resisting extreme weather conditions as well as corrosive oils and acids.

After a careful selection process, Flowcrete Asia was selected to install over 20,000m2 of Deckshield, its colourful car park decking and line-marking system, owing to its expertise in developing and installing superior specialist flooring solutions.

Installation of Deckshield

The internal decks of the seven-storey car park were coated with Deckshield ID, Flowcrete’s Singapore Green Label certified flexible polyurethane decking system.

The low VOC Deckshield ID coating delivers excellent abrasion resistance to withstand heavy vehicular traffic as well as superior anti-slip properties to ensure the safety of visitors.

What’s more, the system helps to maintain the structural integrity and aesthetic appeal of the car park オンライン カジノ by preventing cracks appearing over time, protecting the structure against water ingress as well as petrol, oil, battery acid and other chemicals associated with motor vehicles, and offering bright, light-reflective finish with a vibrant colour palette.

To improve safety, 3,635m of Deckshield UV Linemarker, Flowcrete’s demarcation system, was applied to spaces and directional markings throughout the facility’s seven storeys.

MRCB praised Flowcrete Asia on their ability to deliver a high quality finish ahead of schedule and the project has set a benchmark for car park flooring installations in the surrounding area.
