The International Built Environment Week (IBEW) 2026 opened on Wednesday, 2 September 2026, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, and built environment professionals to examine how the sector can respond to three interconnected priorities: developing the capabilities of its people, harnessing new technologies and intelligence, and advancing more sustainable outcomes. The event was opened by Mr Chee Hong Tat, Minister for National Development.
Held under the theme Empowering People, Accelerating Intelligence, IBEW 2026 explores how the built environment sector can respond to rapid advances in technology, growing sustainability requirements and evolving professional roles. Over three days, the IBEW Conference explores how the sector can translate these developments into practical outcomes — from preparing professionals for changing roles and responsibilities, to applying AI and data more effectively, accelerating decarbonisation and building the capabilities needed to support long-term transformation.
“There is a huge opportunity to bring computational intelligence much earlier into the design process, when decisions have the greatest leverage. The earlier we can test shape, structure, material and manufacturing constraints together, the greater the opportunity to improve both architectural and construction outcomes. We can already explore multiple design trajectories and understand their consequences across form, performance, material quantity and buildability,” said Shajay Bhooshan, Associate Director, ZHA. “The challenge is to make these methods robust, economical and usable within the time and cost pressures of projects. IBEW provides an important platform for exchanging this knowledge and accelerating its transition from specialist practice into mainstream construction.”
Held alongside IBEW, BEX Asia 2026 brings together more than 200 exhibiting brands, with approximately 60 percent showcasing AI-related products and solutions and about 25 percent introducing new products. International exhibitors from Australia, Canada, China, Denmark, Hong Kong, Israel, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Switzerland and the United States are joined by dedicated pavilions including Ontario, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks and Solutions from China.
“The built environment has never been short of data. What has been missing is the ability to turn that data into decisions quickly enough to matter. Design intent, site progress and compliance requirements still sit in separate systems, and teams spend more time reconciling information than acting on it. We are now seeing AI move from novelty to something genuinely useful in this space, helping teams interrogate their models, check work against standards, and access their tools from anywhere without heavy infrastructure,” said Kunal Dubey, Founder & Director, EDC. “BEX Asia brings the region’s project owners, contractors and consultants into one room, and that is where practical adoption starts. We are looking forward to showing how connected, intelligent BIM workflows can shorten the distance between design and delivery, and to learning from others solving the same problems across Asia.”
